Process Optimization for Mid-Size Companies

The "Good Enough" Trap

Mid-size companies often fall into the trap of "it's working comfortably enough." But as you scale, "good enough" processes become bottlenecks that strangle growth.

Value Stream Mapping

The first step to optimization is seeing the process. We use Value Stream Mapping (VSM) to visualize every step a product or service takes from request to delivery.

Identify Wait Times: Where does the work sit idle?
Identify Rework: Where is work sent back because of errors?

The Theory of Constraints

You can improve a non-bottleneck step by 100%, and total throughput won't change. You *must* identify the constraint (the slowest part of the pipe) and focus all improvement efforts there.

Practical Quick Wins

1. Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs): Write them down. If it's in someone's head, it's not scalable.

2. Visual Management: Use Kanban boards or dashboards. If teams can see the backlog, they self-organize to clear it.

3. Automate Handoffs: The biggest delays happen *between* departments. Use automation to bridge these gaps.
